How come some kids respond positively to spanking while others don't?
Q. Why is it that there are some kids who respond positively to spanking, learn lessons from it and are made better people by it, and others who respond negatively and are disturbed or even scarred by it? Like, you see a kid every now and then who grows up to have a spanking fetish or something. Are kids' minds really so drastically different? I kind of think the effectiveness of discipline depends not so much on the method as on the kid. Like, there are some kids with whom it won't work, others with whom it will. Is that right?

A. Ok I'm a teenager and I'm from England so instead of spanking I'm going to use slapping :) First off, if anyone ever slapped me. My mother, my father anyone i would return the hit. No matter who it was, no one should be able to hit someone and get away with it. I class it as abuse whether it is bruised or not. Some kids will only respond to it through fear. Is that what you want, to intimidate your child. Nope. Theres much better ways to punish kids. Don't scream and shout you either loose respect and get walked all over, or frighten them. Worst thing for me is if my possesions are took away from me like my laptop.

Can kids cross the border without birth certificates?
Q. My sister is planning a visit with her 3 kids, they have already been traveling for a few days so can not go back for birth certificates. Can she cross the border from Canada to US with the kids care cards?

A. First answerer missed the point...she seems to think your sister is a U.S. citizen, not a Canadian. Nope. Children must have that birth certificate and if the mother is bringing the children alone, she must have permission from the father. He must provide a signed , notarized letter giving permission for her to take the children out of the country, for each child. See 4th paragraph in first article below. Second article also states this is necessary when crossing Canadian- U.S. border. Now, I have rried to find a Canadian government soiurce for this info and cannot, these articles are written from the viewpoint of going from the U.S. to Canada, not the other way around. What normally happens to kids who have wealthy parents who are constantly busy with work all the time?
Q. I'm referring to the parents who have high paying professional jobs that require them to travel a lot and who are not home all the time with their kids. The type of parents who hire maids or have the money to send their children to boarding schools. I don't like to over generalize, but I'm just curious to know what normally happens to these types of kids on average.

A. I think there are good kids and bad kids in all classes of society. I think the rich kids probably get into a lot less legal jams because their parents have the money and influence to use the system to get them off whereas the poor kids end up getting sent to detention centers and in the system as kids and then adults because they don't have the parents attention or money. There are a lot of poor people who have to work multiple jobs just to buy the basics. Those are the kids who I am worried about! The kids who don't get time or money. :-( I am so blessed. That's all I can say. I am so blessed to be able to stay home with my kids and also live a comfortable lifestyle. We aren't rich but we aren't struggling anymore and I get to… [cont.]
